Brampton Film Club - Movies for Local People
Publication Date: 11 Aug 2011

Now half way through its fourth year, Brampton Film Club continues to provide movies for people locally. With membership hovering around 200, the club would like to see that number increase.

As an incentive to attact new members and as a ‘thank you’ to existing members, the commitee has decided to halve the cost of membership in 2012, for all those who are members in 2011. What does this mean in practice? Well, in 2011 a full member would have paid £10 for their annual membership, whilst concessionary members would have paid
£5. By rejoining for 2012, those members will pay only £5 or £2.50 respectively. Thus, over the whole period (2011 - 2012), full membership will have cost on average, £7.50 a year and concessionary membership, £3.75 a year.

It’s even cheaper for those who may have bought half-year membership in 2011 i.e. from July to December. The cost of membership, over eighteen months (July 2011 to December 2012), for these full members will only be £10 and for concessions, £5.50.

Subscriptions for 2012 will begin to be collected in November 2011, when the club holds its member’s winter event on 19th November and even that’s free to members!
Plenty to look forward to - provided you’re a member of course. If you’re not, why not join? You can do so at any club event, or by visiting the website and using PayPal. It’s that easy.

And what films are coming up?

August brings us the acclaimed comedy drama, The Kids Are All Right (cert. 15), which tells how two children, raised in a female partnership, want to find their biological father and what complications follow when they do.

September kicks off with a tense drama telling the true life story of a young German woman, who defied the Nazi authorities. Sophie Scholl (cert. PG) is a national hero in Germany and this film theatrically draws the audience into the atmosphere of those terrifying times. This is powerful stuff. The film is presented by Brampton Film Club after making special arrangements to obtain a screening licence from the distributors.

In mid September the mountaineering adventure 127 Hours (cert. 15) from Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle will abseil onto our screen. Again, based on a true story, this adventure tells what one man had to go through in order to survive a climbing accident. This movie has also received many accolades.

Then it’s October but more of that later. All information about the club’s programme can be found at www.bramptonfilmclub.org and details are also obtainable from Brampton Community Centre.
